To the "let them theory",

I've been hearing a lot of the "Let Them Theory" by Mel Robbins lately. The way I understand this theory, it's a mindset shift where you don't take responsibility for others' decisions or actions. And if you aren't responsible for them, the collateral damage doesn't affect you either. "Let Them" in my loose translation is allowing others to freely be themselves. This may not be as mind blowing to some as it is to others, but I've found it to be life changing in terms cross profession application.. especially in family photography.

My entire M.O. when photographing families is essentially "Let Them."

I thrive in creating an environment where families, especially youngsters, feel encouraged to play and be themselves. Fostering this comfortability is extremely important to my sessions as I want to photograph your family exactly right where they are in life.

If the kids want to run around and do cartwheels, let them!

If the youngest wants to splash in the water, let them!

If mom and dad want to watch their kids from afar, let them!

The energy of photography is undeniable. Real smiles are noticeable, and this is a big part of how we'll create them. Real smiles come naturally!

I am grateful beyond words for a family like the Hightowers who let me the direct them in this way. To be trusted in capturing the precious moments of your family is a gift! I had so much fun with them watching cartwheel competitions, racing down the dunes, and even having the end of our session be crashed by skydivers. The joy was infectious.
