Living in Michigan is a great excuse to stay indoors during the winter, especially when we're experiencing the coldest one in six years. Brr!

Another great excuse to lock yourself in and get cozy.. is an in home session! The Dalmans' welcomed their baby girl into the world at the beginning of the winter, and decided to document their start as a family of three in their beautiful home. The two seem to go together very well, family sessions and your family home. I love hosting at locations that hold meaning, because then as you look back on your photos, you have more than just the subjects to reminisce on. During in home sessions I love to play into the environment. Using multiple rooms, sitting on the floor, rearranging the books on your shelves, incorporating your daily routines, and so much more.

In home sessions often have a more dramatic and "real life" flare to them due to the difference in lighting. Where I primarily use bright tones and natural light for my photographs, natural light can sometimes be hard to come by in doors! I use this to my advantage playing with dark shadows and bright highlights to create high contrast moments. Where needed, I will bounce a flash for an extra pop, otherwise I keep your at home life unaltered.
